Why upgrade computer components?

Why not just buy a new computer? Answers here ...

Note: This section is about what you can upgrade, about the research you should do,  and some of the problems you will encounter when you do your upgrade.

To do the actual upgrade of your computer see the Repair section for individual tasks such as a hard drive, motherboard, etc. I do this to keep from repeating myself as much as possible.

Upgrade computer components also known as devices and parts...

Your computer is slow, the display won't display your latest and greatest program, you go to the internet to surf and it takes forever to load a page, You have some choices on your upgrade  path. Research will point you in the lowest cost direction.

Note: By cheap I do not mean parts that are of poor quality and cost very little. I mean the way you find the best (sometimes the highest quality) parts for least cost. You will see this on my web site: "Buy cheap, Get cheap!" and "You get what you pay for!" use this guide to help you get the best or highest quality parts you can afford.

Your first objective is to define your upgrade path. If you have the money you could go for a complete new system, if you decide on a new system your choices are buy a system or build it your self (BIG Computers Inc). Or you could take your current computer and do the upgrade yourself, for most computer devices.

So you do your research. If you find is your current system can be upgraded and will have a significant impact on the performance or you find that your system is either to old or is to proprietary to do any thing with.

Now you have to figure out which way you want to go, do you lack the funds to buy a new computer or can you afford a brand new one? One of the pitfalls of buying cheap is you get what you pay for. So if you are upgrading components consider spending a little more for a higher quality item. The few extra dollars you spend now will save you from buying the same item again in a year or so.
